SB 1201 expands paid parental leave for certain Oklahoma education employees by increasing paid maternity leave to 12 weeks and creating 12 weeks of paid adoption leave, to be used immediately after birth or adoption.
It applies to full-time school district staff and specified education employees at Oklahoma CareerTech, Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, Oklahoma Department of Corrections, and Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs who have at least one year of service and 1,250 hours worked in the prior 12 months.
The bill reimburses these costs through renamed revolving funds—one administered by the Oklahoma State Board of Education for school districts and one administered by the Office of Management and Enterprise Services for state agencies—along with a direction for annual appropriations and a fallback allocation if funding is short.
It also updates related leave statutes (leave without pay, substitute-pay deductions, and leave-sharing) to explicitly include adoption, and it sets a July 1, 2026 effective date while also declaring an emergency for immediate effect.
