SB 1202 expands Oklahoma’s education-employee paid leave program by adding paid paternity leave and paid adoption leave alongside the existing maternity leave framework.
Eligible full-time school district employees—and certain education staff at the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, Oklahoma Department of Corrections, and the Office of Juvenile Affairs who have at least 1 year of service and 1,250 hours worked—would get 6 weeks paid maternity or paternity leave after a birth, or 6 weeks paid adoption leave after an adoption, taken immediately afterward.
The bill also lets employees use accrued sick leave to extend that leave (generally up to another 6 weeks to align with FMLA timing) and updates related leave statutes to match the new categories.
Costs would be reimbursed through renamed revolving funds run by the Oklahoma State Board of Education and the Office of Management and Enterprise Services.
July 1, 2026 effective date while also declaring an emergency for immediate effect.
