  1. SB 1203 adds paid adoption leave to Oklahoma’s existing paid maternity leave program for education employees, so eligible school district staff (and certain education employees in state agencies) can take six weeks of paid leave after adopting a child (same length as the existing paid maternity leave).

It applies to full-time employees who’ve worked at least one year and 1,250 hours in the prior 12 months, and the leave has to be used immediately after the birth or adoption.

The bill also updates related leave laws (leave without pay, substitute-pay deductions, and leave-sharing) to explicitly include adoption, and it renames the revolving funds used to reimburse districts/agencies for these leave costs.

It states an effective date of July 1, 2026, but also includes an emergency clause that would make it take effect immediately upon passage.
